Absa staff members raised funds for children's clinics by hosting the Absa Charity Golf Day at the Silverlakes Golf Club in Pretoria. The main beneficiaries of this charitable exercise are the Children's Haematology and Oncology Clinics (CHOC), Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa.
They managed to raise an estimated R250 000 in support of CHOC efforts in the Gauteng region.
Chris Sweeney, Managing Executive of Absa Card, says Absa is intent on leveraging the good work that is being done by CHOC.
"Absa is committed to making South Africa the best possible country in which to live, work and invest. We wish CHOC continued success in their hard work to make life better for children with cancer."
This initiative is part of the Absa Group's corporate social investment programmes aimed at supporting employees' community volunteerism and fund-raising activities. It was hosted by Absa Card staff members.
Participants include Absa Card stakeholders and their partners.
The Childhood Cancer Foundation is a countrywide voluntary organisation, which brings together the parents of children who suffer from a variety of cancers. The name CHOC was used by the first local parent group established in 1979.
In 2000 a new organisation was formed, linking parent groups in all parts of the country. The goal of this group is to improve the quality of care for children with cancer. The organisation provides direct help to children with cancer from diagnosis onwards.
