ESRI, a world leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, presented Tracker South Africa (SA) with a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award on the 29th June at their annual User Conference. Selected from over 300,000 eligible candidates, Tracker SA received the award for its innovative application of technology, data collection, geospatial information visualization and thought leadership through GIS in the field of Vehicle Telematics.
ESRI’s GIS platform has assisted Tracker SA to deliver an advanced mapping solution to clients while utilising built in spatial tools to effectively change the way tracking services and support are delivered. Mapping plays a critical role for any company that focuses on spatial awareness and the ESRI technology enables Tracker SA to deliver a self-hosted and self-maintained geographical mapping solution to clients. Spatial intelligence and active analysis has become a key focus area within Tracker SA and allows us to offer services such as high definition traffic flow data and built in hotspot analysis maps which predict trends and indicate patterns. The technology also allows us to manage and maintain our radio frequency network throughout South Africa using terrain and DEM data models.
“The ESRI GIS technology plays a critical part in the success of our business and will play a significant role in the future when Tracker SA uses this technology to a greater extent to extract further insights from our vehicle telematics data for our customers locally and abroad. We value the partnership with ESRI and are delighted that ESRI has recognised Tracker SA as a company that leads the way in applying this technology. It is also important to give credit to the competent and talented team at ESRI and Tracker SA’s GIS specialists that worked diligently to take the business to the next level in this space,” said Carel Wessels, Tracker SA’s Chief Technology Officer.
“The SAG Awards serve a great purpose,” said ESRI founder and President Jack Dangermond. “A Special Achievement in GIS Award recognises best practices for organisations implementing technology to change the world. Highlighting good work benefits the entire GIS community and that’s very valuable.”
Tracker SA was one of only 167 organizations in the world to receive a SAG Award. ESRI staff nominate thousands of candidates annually from around the world for consideration and company President Dangermond selects the finalists.
“SAG winners are diverse in their geographical representation by design,” Dangermond said. “We purposely focus on the different regions of the world because we’re looking for best practices of GIS in different cultures and different geographies.”
