01 June 2015 | People and Companies | Awards

The Financial Planning Institute (FPI), a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) recognised professional body, has recently announced the names of the top three professional financial planners who progressed to the third and final round of the 2015 FPI Financial Planner of the Year competition. In this final round, the three entrants will be required to present to a panel of judges on a selected topic and required to answer questions related to industry trends, topics, technical information and legislative changes.

The top three CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professionals, in alphabetical order by surname, are:

Bruce Fleming, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and executive head: private clients at Consolidated Financial Planning in the Western Cape. He obtained his B.Com LLB degree from the University of Natal (PMB) in 1994 and successfully completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning in 1999. He then, in 2001, went on to complete his Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning. Fleming specialised in asset types and investment instruments as well as principles of portfolio planning and management. Over and above these achievements, he also decided to do an extra subject in Estate Planning in 2006. In 2014, Fleming was a finalist in the prestigious Financial Planner of the Year competition.

Wouter Fourie, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and chief executive officer of Ascor™ Independent Wealth Managers, is an advanced postgraduate qualified financial planner (Investments and Estate planning), with more than 17 years’ experience in the field of comprehensive financial planning and wealth management. Fourie is also a qualified professional accountant with postgraduate qualifications in advanced taxation. He serves on various FPI committees, as a member or chairperson, and is actively involved in a number of financial literacy education programmes.

Mark MacSymon, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and wealth manager at Private Client Holdings in Cape Town, completed his Masters of Commerce (majoring in economics) at the University of Stellenbosch. He also completed the Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning and is committed to ongoing studies within the financial planning profession. Although MacSymon regards a strong academic background as essential to rendering a quality wealth management service, he believes first and foremost that the most valuable commodity in the wealth management industry is trust – built over time.

Now who will take this years’ award and be named the 2015 Financial Planner of the Year and appointed as the FPI and CFP® professional brand ambassador?
