The Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance announces the finalists for its prestigious "Ukusizana "Award

16 January 2008 The Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance

The Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance announced the three finalists who stand in line to walk away with its prestigious “Ukusizana” award, which is an annual award aimed at recognising short-term insurers’ commitment to consumer excellence.

The initiative was launched in September last year targeting short-term insurers who are members of the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance. The award is based upon the following criteria: application of fairness and equity, speed and thoroughness of insurers’ responses to the Ombudsman’s office, commitment to fairness and equity, and the level of cooperation the office received from each insurer.

“I am delighted to advise that the three finalists are Outsurance, Auto & General Group and MUA Insurance Company”, says Brian Martin, Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance. “The adjudication process began in January this year, where we reviewed the efforts of insurers’ over the last few months. Insurers’ were rated in terms of the criteria highlighted above by myself, my Deputy Ombudsman and Assistant Ombudsmen.” Many insurers spend a great deal of time and effort in responding to consumer complaints and in promoting a positive image of the insurance industry. It is only fitting that the office of the Ombudsman recognises this commitment and dedication to seeing disputes and complaints resolved quickly, fairly and cost effectively stated Brian Martin after the announcement was made.

The overall winner, second place and third place will be announced at the launch of the Ombudsman’s Annual Report in March 2008. The winner will receive a floating trophy designed by well-known Kwazulu Natal artist, Sarah Richards and a certificate of achievement.

The Ombudsman also noted that there was very little difference between the scores achieved by the three finalists so far and that the competition is still wide open. A final assessment will be made during March shortly before the presentation of the award.
