Ilse Pienaar (Publisher Top Women in Business & Government) & Martina Romer (Sechaba Medical Solutions): Top Gender Empowered Organisation: Science, Pharmaceuticals and Health AND Top Gender Empowered Company of the Year
Sechaba Medical Solutions, one of the leading South African health administrators and the first 100% black-owned administrator in the country, walked away with top honours at the 6th Annual Top Women Awards held this week at The Wanderers, Johannesburg.
The Top Women Awards event is held annually to celebrate companies and individuals who contribute daily to the empowerment of women in South Africa. This includes corporate pioneers, government employees and entrepreneurial heroes at the forefront of gender equality.
This year Sechaba Medical Solutions won the award in the Top Gender Empowered Company: Science, Pharmaceuticals and Health category. Others nominated in this category included Sigma Health Fund Managers, Metropolitan Health Corporate and Netcare Limited.
But the winning didn’t stop there and Sechaba Medical Solutions was announced as the overall winner of the prestigious Top Gender Empowered Company award.
“Sechaba has a total female staff complement of 78% with 69% in Management and 20% of their board of directors and shareholders are female. This impressive gender empowerment background makes Sechaba a worthy recipient of the award,” says Ilse Pienaar, Associate Publisher Top Women in Business and Government.
“Women empowerment and transformation is on top of our priority list and the company is continuously embarking on projects to further add value to the progress and careers of women within the company,” says Thokozani Magwaza, CEO of Sechaba Medical Solutions.
This is the third award Sechaba has won this year. They were recently placed sixth in the small business category (under 350 staff) in the Best Employer Awards.
“The company is determined to break grounds as a leader in women empowerment and in the transformation process of the medical aid industry. The outstanding recognition is much appreciated and we feel proud that our efforts are being recognised with an award of this nature. We will continue in our drive to bring gender empowerment to the fore in our industry,” concludes Magwaza.
