Satrix wins People’s Choice Award for sixth time at SALTA

31 March 2023 Satrix

Trophy tally of nine for 2023

South Africa, 31 March 2023: Satrix, South Africa's leading provider of index-tracking products, has scooped nine awards at the annual South African Listed Tracker Funds Awards (SALTA) held at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in Sandton on 30 March 2023. The wins - which again make Satrix the most awarded company at the SALTAs - include the coveted People’s Choice award for the sixth time as well as wins for capital raising and performance over three, five and 10 year periods.

Fikile Mbhokota, CEO of Satrix, says this recognition has solidified Satrix’s continued role as the country’s leading indexation investment business. “Our team has worked tirelessly to make investing accessible and affordable for all South Africans, regardless of portfolio size. These wins are a testament to the hard work and time our exceptionally talented team have invested into helping our clients achieve their financial goals – helping them pave the way for their financial success.”

She said, “Winning the SALTA People’s Choice award for the sixth consecutive year is such an honour and testament to the popularity of South Africa’s first and favourite ETF. We are both delighted and honoured to have received so many votes as this demonstrates the trust clients have placed in Satrix to help fulfil their investment goals.”

Mbhokota further noted that Satrix's commitment to financial inclusion aligns with the SALTA 2023 awards' objective of rewarding exceptional ETF products that contribute to the growth of South Africa's investment industry.

Turning to the performance and capital raising awards Kingsley Williams, Satrix chief investment officer, said the awards highlight the wide range of investment opportunities that Satrix brings to market for the South African investor. “The awards for inflows show that our funds are resonating with institutional and retail investors and attracting capital. The diverse sources that our inflows come from show the growing interest and confidence in our indexation products.”

The SALTA Awards, now in its sixth year, is an initiative by independent service providers to the ETF industry in South Africa to recognise issuers that provide outstanding index-tracking products to the local market. It assesses total investment returns and rewards issuers' abilities in providing passive ETF products.

The organisers measure skills through:
• Efficiency in tracking indices (tracking error) over three years.
• Success in raising new capital through ETF listings on the JSE over one and three years.
• Trading efficiency over three years.
• A “People’s Award”, for the favourite exchange-traded products (ETP), selected by public votes through a dedicated website.
• A “People’s Champion Award” for the best ETF portfolio selection by the public.

The Satrix Top 40 ETF has been a flagship fund since its first listing, providing investors with local equity exposure at the lowest cost in the market, however the breadth of awards, which include Satrix’s sector focussed funds demonstrate the company’s success across the spectrum of opportunities in the ETF space.

“We remain deeply committed to giving as many South Africans as possible the opportunity to grow their wealth and ‘own the market’ through initiatives like our ‘no minimums’ investing and affordable and easy-to-access SatrixNOW platform. These efforts make it easier for everyone, no matter their level of understanding, to start their investment journey and take control of their financial futures,” concluded Mbhokota.
