PSG Wealth Midlands Employee Benefits has been named as PSG’s Employee Benefits Practice of the Year for 2016/2017. PSG is a JSE-listed financial services group with the largest network of independent employee benefits, insurance and financial advisers around the country.
The award was presented at the gala dinner ceremony held at PSG’s annual conference in Sun City earlier this month. Based on measurements for the 2016/2017 financial year, the criteria for the award includes quality and professionalism, which looks at client interaction, the level of education and skills of staff, practice management and compliance, as well as the embracing of the PSG strategy. Profitability in terms of growth revenue in assets and premiums under administration and/or management is also considered.
Since joining PSG in 2008, PSG Wealth Midlands Employee Benefits has evolved into a specialist financial services practice offering healthcare, retirement fund and investment consulting. Over the past few years, Tinus and Ann Havinga, the founding partners, have been joined by business partners Sylvester Appasamy, Malan Vermaak and John Cranke. Succession planning is key to the survival and growth of any business. “We believe that we have successfully achieved this and will continue to ensure that the service and advice needs of our clients are protected and well-managed,” says Tinus Havinga.
“PSG has the largest network of independent financial, insurance, healthcare and employee benefits advisers in Southern Africa, which means this award is a significant achievement,” says Dan Hugo, Chief Executive of Distribution at PSG. As at end February 2017, the total number of advisers within the PSG network stood at 744, located in 208 local offices throughout South Africa. The practice is currently one of the largest of its kind in the PSG group with service offerings in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pietermaritzburg and Port Elizabeth.
Havinga says that when they joined PSG almost nine years ago, they expected positive growth but never dreamed that the practice and client base would grow at the rate that it has. “This is all thanks to a strong brand with solid value systems, coupled with good internal systems, but most importantly, the support and vision of PSG’s senior management.”
The practice has been well recognised at PSG’s annual conference and awards’ ceremony over the years; as former winners or finalists of the Office of the Year award in the Healthcare and Retirement Fund categories nine times.
Havinga’s team is committed to providing their clients with the highest quality advice and support, and they see awards like these as affirmation that they are on the right track. “Lastly, but most importantly we would like to thank our clients for their loyal support, without which we would not be winning this award,” he concludes.
