PSG Konsult, the JSE-listed financial services firm, recognised its top financial practitioners for 2017/18 at the firm’s 20th annual conference, held at Sun City in May. “Celebrating our 20th annual conference is a significant milestone for our business and the winners are really top performers in their field,” said Dan Hugo, CE of Distribution at PSG. This year’s conference theme was “Game On!” with a focus on how an increasingly complex environment requires team work and the support of experts to ensure continued success.

PSG has SA’s largest network of independent financial advisers in South Africa and Namibia. The annual conference sees advisers from across South Africa and Namibia as well as company management, partners and product providers come together to share knowledge and create a sense of community within the company.

“Competition across our vast network of advisers is always fierce, and taking home top honours is a significant achievement,” says Hugo. The conference line up included international speakers such as Tim Harford, author of The Undercover Economist and award-winning Financial Times columnist; April Rudin, founder of the Rudin group, an acclaimed financial services and wealth management marketing specialist; and Brian Parsley, a behaviour analyst and human capital strategist.

Other speakers included South African business heavyweights Jannie Mouton – chairman and founder of the PSG Group, Michael Jordaan – former CEO of First National Bank (FNB) and Nico Conradie – CEO of Munich Re Africa.

Award criteria

“While income does play a role in the award selection criteria, the extent to which advisers embrace our trusted PSG processes and live our values are also key considerations,” said Hugo. “We see these awards as integral to encouraging the culture of client-centricity and excellence that has earned us the reputation we enjoy today, 20 years later.”

Hugo noted that the award winners had each outperformed in their respective fields, with awards being based on the following criteria:

- quality and professionalism, which looks at client interaction, the level of education and skills of staff, practice management and compliance;
- embracing the PSG strategy, which entails being a strong brand ambassador and supporting the key initiatives of the firm; and
- profitability, in terms of growth revenue as well as in assets and premiums under administration and/or management.
