Old Mutual named “Top Empowered Business of the Year”

27 July 2020 Old Mutual

Old Mutual was named “Top Empowered Business of the Year” at the 2020 #TopEmpowerment Virtual Awards last night.

The award, presented by TOPCO Media, celebrates leadership and significant progress made by South African companies in driving transformation and empowerment through their business operations.

“We are exceptionally proud of this achievement, which has come both in the midst of perhaps the most challenging period for Old Mutual and as the Group marks its 175th anniversary,” says CEO, Iain Williamson.
Transformation and Empowerment are priority focus areas of the Group’s Responsible Business philosophy, and it has worked hard over the last decade to deliver on the stretch targets that have led to this milestone achievement. Contributing factors include:
• The achievement of Level 1 B-BBEE status in March this year, improving on all elements of the BEE scorecard in the process

• Transforming and diversifying its leadership team, making it one of the most transformed in the financial services sector (more than 50% black and 43% female)

• Working with partners across sectors to transform the economy through entrepreneurial activity and skills development that creates sustainable jobs

• Supporting transformation in the education sector through focussed programmes across the value chain as well as launching an ambitious new project, “Africa’s Biggest Digital Classroom”, which will leverage digital technology to revolutionise and transform how learning is deliver learning across the continent.
“As a responsible business, we are more energised and committed than ever to continue making a positive impact on transformation and empowerment in South Africa and the continent” Concludes Iain Williamson Old Mutual CEO.

“We acknowledge that while much progress has been made, we remain committed to doing even more to consolidate these gains and move the transformation agenda even further forward,” concludes Iain.
