Nedbank awarded SA Bank of the Year

04 December 2014 | People and Companies | Awards | Mike Brown, Nedbank

In the most significant accolade among many for Nedbank this year, the bank has just been named 2014 South African Bank of the Year by leading global banking publication, The Banker, a member of the Financial Times company.

“We are deeply honoured as this award shows the progress we have made in building towards our vision of becoming Africa’s most admired bank, a great place to work, bank and invest,” says Mike Brown, Nedbank CEO. “This prestigious award recognises excellence in banking across the globe and is testimony to the hard work of all the Nedbank Group staff over the past few years.”

The award is testimony to Nedbank Group’s strong management, sound business model and prudent approach. Brown notes that the award is even more noteworthy in light of South Africa being rated sixth in the worldwide for the soundness of its banking sector by the World Economic Forum in its recent Global Competitiveness Report. This is the third time that Nedbank has been honoured with this award.

ETI, Nedbank’s alliance partner and the leading pan-African bank with operations in 39 countries across the continent, was also named bank of the year in multiple African countries – including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger and Togo. Nedbank recently acquired a 20% shareholding in the business.

“The award is recognition that Ecobank is achieving its objectives of building a world-class pan-African bank and contributing to the economic and financial integration and development of the African continent, and Nedbank is proud of our recently announced association,” concludes Brown.
