Morningstar Research (Pty) Limited, a subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, today announced the finalists for its 2016 South Africa Fund Awards.
The annual Morningstar South Africa Fund Awards recognise funds and fund houses that added the most value for investors within the context of their relevant peer group in 2015 and over longer time periods. Morningstar selects the finalists using a quantitative methodology with a qualitative overlay that considers the one-, three-, and five-year performance history of all eligible funds, and adjusts returns for risk using Morningstar Risk, a measure that imposes a higher penalty for downside variation in a fund’s return than it does for upside volatility.
“The Morningstar Awards are designed to help investors identify the country’s most exceptional funds and fund houses for the previous year,” Tal Nieburg, managing director for Morningstar South Africa, said. “In addition to outperformance of their peers during the last 12 months, all of our finalists delivered strong three- and five-year returns after adjusting for risk, demonstrating that they also have the ability to perform well over the long-term.”
