Hendrik du Toit named European Asset Management CEO of the Year

11 October 2012 Investec Asset Management

Investec Asset Management is delighted to announce that Hendrik du Toit, CEO, was last night (10 October) named Chief Executive of the Year at the prestigious Financial News Awards for Excellence in European Institutional Asset Management.

Viewed as the definitive and authoritative industry view of the performance and strategy of the main players in the European institutional asset management industry, the winners in each category were decided upon by a distinguished panel of more than 100 pension fund consultants, fund management executives and marketers from across Europe. Financial News, a Dow Jones publication, is one of Europe’s top institutional trade publications.

The CEO of the Year award recognises Du Toit as the chief executive who has made a real difference at the helm of his or her firm and is considered one of the most prestigious of the 25 categories in the awards.

Previous winners of the award include Laurence Fink, chairman and chief executive of BlackRock, Edward Bonham Carter from Jupiter Fund Management and Elizabeth Corley, chief executive of Allianz Global Investors.

Says Du Toit: “I am very humbled to receive this award, particularly as it is voted for by our peers in the industry. Last year, Investec Asset Management was named runner-up in the category for Firm of the Year, so for me this award is not about individual excellence but what we as a firm have collectively achieved This award confirms our position as a well- established competitor in the global asset management arena. What makes this unique is that we are the first firm from the emerging markets to receive this honour from industry peers.”

Du Toit’s award comes as Investec Asset Management celebrates its twenty-first anniversary. Having founded Investec Asset Management in 1991, he and his team have grown the business from a start up in South Africa, to an international investment manager serving a global client base with approximately R800 billion in assets under management today. In 2011 he was also named European Asset Management Personality of the Year by Funds Europe.
