Financial Planning Institute (FPI) puts the spotlight on financial planning in South Africa

Financial Planner of the Year announced.

The Financial Planning Institute (FPI) today announced that CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, Barry O'Mahony, founder of Veritas Wealth Management, has been crowned as the 2013 Financial Planner of the Year.  O’Mahony received this accolade at an event of his peers during the cocktail evening at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Speaking directly after receiving the award, O’Mahony commented, “Winning this award has been a dream come true and I’m honoured to have been selected considering that it’s one of the highest accolades in our industry. The title will allow me to further attest to the value of attaining a CFP® designation as well as empowering the broader public to make better financial planning decisions.” As the Financial Planner of the Year, O’Mahony will also serve as the FPI and CFP® professional designation brand ambassador.
  
Godfrey Nti, CEO of the FPI added, “Barry’s passion and substantial financial planning experience has positioned him as an asset to the financial services industry and on behalf of the Institute I would like to congratulate him on receiving this award. Furthermore we would like to extend a warm appreciation to the judges for ensuring that the award judging process progressed smoothly under the provision of their expertise.”
 
O'Mahony holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, a National Diploma in Business Administration, Social Studies and in Financial Planning. He came to South Africa from Ireland in 1993 and joined Appleton Asset management, as a portfolio manager, where he was later appointed Head of Client Services for five years.  He thereafter joined Brait Unit Trusts as the Director and moved to ipac South Africa as the Head of Practice Development.  O’Mahony founded his independent practice, Veritas Wealth Management in 2004.

The FPI also acknowledge the other two finalists for the Financial Planner of the Year Award 2013:

Shaun Latter, CFP®

Shaun Latter is founder of Quaestor Wealth Management, which specialises in retirement planning and investment advice. He holds an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning, a Certified Life Coach and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. Latter is actively involved in the FPI and served as Vice Chairperson for the Client Engagement Industry Sector Group (ISG).

Donovan Adams, CFP®

Donovan Adams is a retirement specialist at Chartered Wealth Solutions in Johannesburg. Originally, from Port Elizabeth, he holds a BCom Honours degree (NMMU), an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning (UFS) and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. He believes that retirement does not have to be complicated and cuts through the clutter by delivering a comprehensive and easy-to-understand plan.
