On 22 October 2009 Compass Insurance celebrated their annual awards dinner, the Night of the Star at the Theatre on the track in Kyalami. This prestigious event began in 2001, with the aim to honour excellence demonstrated by their underwriting agencies within Compass. Each year the event is themed – this year it was Cirque du Soleil.

In keeping with the theme, the night began with colourful cocktails and delicious snacks, all served under a beautifully decorated marquee tent. Jugglers, fire throwers, clowns and stilt walkers set the tone for a fun and enjoyable evening at Cirque du Soleil. When the main doors opened guests were treated to a venue that looked spectacular. The evening’s entertainment consisted of various acrobatic events that wowed the audience with their performances. Compass Insurance ensured that the style and class of their new brand was brought to the fore.

Angela Mhlanga, MD of Compass Insurance reminded the audience of the milestones achieved by Compass over the past 4 years. She ended off announcing that Compass has reached R1 billion in gross written premium in 2009 which makes it a serious player in the insurance space. The underwriting agencies and the brokers were then introduced to the award winners for the evening. The criterion for the awards has remained consistent year on year however the award names now reflect Compass’ new image.

The awards winners for the evening were the following:

Health & Accident who received 2 awards, the Measured Award and the Quality Award which measure the claims audit results and the overall audit results respectively.

Commercial & Industrial Acceptances received the Personal Award for a second time running. This award is presented to the agency elected by the Compass staff for adhering to procedures and deadlines, making this agency professional and a pleasure to deal with.

The Exceptional Award went to First Marine Acceptances for the most improved loss ratio

The partnership award, which is the coveted award, went to Firedart Engineering Underwriters. Firedart has won the Partnership award for the 3rd time in a row. This award is of significance as the winners receive a trip overseas to visit an agency at Compass’s expense. The agency that scores the highest overall total score based on the weighted score card receives this award. The runners up to the Partnership award were First Marine Acceptances and Landmark Underwriting Agency who each won a marketing cash prize to be utilised towards marketing activities for the agencies.

Once all the awards were over the real partying began on the dance floor where some amazing movers showed all how it could be done.
