Bruce Fleming of Citadel accepts the Financial Planner of the Year Award 2016.

In the world of financial planners, there is no greater accolade than being named the South African Financial Planner of the year. Citadel is delighted that Advisory Partner Bruce Fleming, CFP®, was announced as the 2016 winner at a Gala Dinner last night. Competing against the industry’s best, Fleming was recognised for his superior abilities as a financial advisor, his considerable industry knowledge and his skill in the profession.

“With three challenging rounds to get through, Bruce stood out as an exceptional advisor,” notes Andrew Möller, Citadel CEO. “He can be justifiably proud of this achievement.”

Held under the auspices of the Financial Planning Institute (FPI) and billed as the South African financial advisors’ “equivalent of the Oscars," the FPI Financial Planner of the Year Award honours outstanding financial planners from across South Africa. Two rounds whittle the entries down to a short list of three advisors. The third and final round requires them to present to a panel of judges on a selected topic and answer questions related to industry trends, topics, technical information and legislative changes.

Bruce Fleming, CFP®, has been involved in the financial planning industry for some 20 years. With an LLB under his belt, Bruce began his career as a legal advisor at Old Mutual in 1995, assisting some key financial planning businesses in the country. But it was through his work at Acsis, which he joined in 2000, that Bruce began financial planning in earnest.

“As a legal advisor initially I realised the importance of financial planning in everyone’s life, regardless of income level,” explains Fleming. “I believe passionately in providing financial planning solutions to clients as opposed to giving advice on a product. I create bespoke financial plans for each and every client and prospective client I see. I outsource aspects of the holistic financial planning process that I am not an expert in to specialists in the necessary fields, such as medical aid and short term insurance. A business the size of Citadel is able to support such specialists so I know that my clients are getting the best solution possible.”

Fleming’s primary focus is on clients and what is best for them in achieving and maintaining their short, medium and long-term financial goals. He was a finalist in the prestigious FPI Financial Planner of the Year Award in 2014 and 2015.
