Bukhosi Khumalo Wins Big in Algeria AIO, YIP Awards

Last week saw the 49th edition of the African Insurance Organization (AIO) conference take place at the El Aurassi Hotel Algiers in Algeria with approx. 2,000 attendees.

One of our young South African industry professionals, Bukhosi Khumalo, also travelled on the same trip as a Top 3 finalist of the Young Insurance Professionals (YIP) 2nd edition NextGen Insurance Awards on the African Continent, together with Emma Okere (from Kenya) and Jackline Muthengi (from Kenya).

The award recognises excellent contributions in the development of the insurance industry on the continent by young professionals. This year also had a focus on closings the insurance gap, increasing insurance penetration and matters of leadership. A huge congratulations to Bukhosi for bringing this award home and being the winner of this edition in 2023.

Bukhosi is a Manager in the Corporate Division at Marsh South Africa, leading one of its largest risk and insurance programmes, and continues to learn at an accelerated pace, with a keen interest in adapting to the ever-changing client needs and operating environment. He is also an eager investor of time and thought into various industry initiatives and topics on the continent beyond the so-called "9-5 commitments".

He is currently an Associate of the IRMSA, Fellow of the IISA, IIG Deputy President & Executive for Marketing, and CII (UK) member. He has served as past president of the Risk, Insurance & Actuarial Sciences Society, and a former IIB Board Member. He is also contributor in articles to some of South Africa's widest-read publications on matters concerning risk and insurance, and a Guest Lecturer on the same subject matters.
