Bestmed Medical Scheme, the fourth largest open medical scheme and the largest self-administered medical scheme in the country, received high honours at last week’s prestigious Titanium Awards, presented by the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF), bagging first place in two competitive categories.
The two phenomenal wins, which include the Titanium Award for Service to Membership: Open, Closed & Self-administered Medical Schemes, Administrators and Managed Care Organisations, and the Titanium Award for Excellence in Creating Access to Quality Healthcare, recognise Bestmed’s commitment to a high standard of service and providing access to quality healthcare to all members.

The Titanium Awards is hosted by the BHF and recognises excellence in healthcare and celebrates organisations who have made significant contributions to the ever-evolving healthcare landscape of South Africa.

Bestmed was awarded the Titanium Award for Service to Membership: Open, Closed & Self-administered Medical Schemes, Administrators and Managed Care Organisations, which recognises and rewards medical schemes (open, restricted and self-administered), administrators and managed care organisations providing excellent service to their members.
The medical scheme also nabbed the Titanium Award for Excellence in Creating Access to Quality Healthcare – an accolade Bestmed received at the virtual Titanium Awards in 2020 as well. This award seeks to honour organisations from across the healthcare industry spectrum driving programmes, initiatives and campaigns that create access to healthcare for communities, and includes Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes and initiatives.
In addition to winning two awards and having entered three categories, Bestmed also received a nomination in the newly added Best Integrated Report category that recognises progress made, completeness, conciseness and usability of annual reports by stakeholders.

Some of Bestmed’s initiatives and achievements, which Dlamini points to as contributing factors of the medical scheme’s wins, include COVID-19-related relief initiatives, sanitary pad kit donations as well as the partnership with Operation Hunger, focused on providing optimal nutrition and creating food sustainability in South Africa.
