Bestmed Medical Scheme awarded again for excellence in healthcare

16 May 2023 Bestmed Medical Scheme

Bestmed Medical Scheme, the fourth largest open medical scheme and the largest self-administered medical scheme in the country, received top honours for a third consecutive time at last night’s prestigious Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) Titanium Awards Gala event in Cape Town.

The Scheme walked away with first place in one of the most competitive category’s that recognises Bestmed’s outstanding performance in creating quality healthcare and delivering excellent customer service: the Titanium Award for Excellence in Creating Access to Quality Healthcare.

Bestmed is receiving this award for a third consecutive time and it recognises the scheme’s corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives and sponsorships that contribute to creating access to healthcare for communities. Two of the Scheme’s initiatives, which contributed to Bestmed’s win, include the sponsorship of an Unjani Clinic Health Pod that helps to make quality healthcare more accessible to community members in and around parts of George and the Garden Route. The Scheme also donated a 22-seater bus to the Faculty of Health Sciences at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in the Eastern Cape. The bus will be utilised to transport medical students to clinics and hospitals in the province, where they do their practical training and simultaneously offer healthcare services to community members.

“There is so much need in our communities. If you see an opportunity and you’re able to make a difference, no matter how small, do it,” says Leo Dlamini, Chief Executive Officer / Principal Officer of Bestmed. “We’ve found that if we partner with credible organisations that share our passion for excellence and for making a difference, we can make a greater, more sustainable impact in South African communities.”

“It is an honour to be recognised once again by BHF for the hard work and dedication to excellence that Bestmed’s employees, also known as Heartbeats, put in every day, not just to assist members, but to help South African communities,” says Dlamini. “The Titanium awards is a great benchmark to help us, and the healthcare industry in general, to keep pushing the boundaries in creating access to quality healthcare and delivering service excellence.”
