Absa awarded for excellence in Retirement Fund Management and Innovation

08 June 2015 Marcel de Klerk, Absa

Absa Employee Benefits (Fiduciary Services) was named Actuarial Firm of the year at the 2015 Imbasa Yegolide Awards this week.

Presented by Batseta- Council of Retirement Funds for South Africa, the aim of the awards is to acknowledge and applaud professional excellence in the retirement fund industry, and also to highlight the important role of Principal Officers and Trustees of retirement funds in South Africa.

“Receiving top honours at the 7th annual Imbasa Yegolide Awards is indeed a proud moment for Absa as it validates our position as a leading advocate of professional excellence in the Retirement Fund industry,” says Marcel de Klerk, the Managing Executive at Absa Fiduciary.

“Bodies such as Batseta serve a vital role in driving credibility in the industry, and we are humbled to have been recognised among our highly respected and admired competitors.”

Absa Consultants and Actuaries were also nominated in three other award categories, namely: Employee Benefit Consultant of the Year, Employee Benefit Administrator of the Year, and Technology Provider of the Year.

Absa Wealth, Investment Management and Insurance (WIMI) were once again in the spotlight as Absa Life was announced as “Innovator of the Year” at the 5th Annual Distribution and Bancassurance Conference on Tuesday, 2nd June.

The award was won as a result of Absa’s groundbreaking “Affinity” offer which is the first solution in Africa to channel transactional banking data as a predictor to grant life insurance for customers, thus bypassing the inconvenience of tedious medical tests, as well as the Digital Insurance product available on absa.co.za.

“This is a particularly exciting acknowledgement for us,” says Jannie Venter, the Managing Executive at Absa Life. “We have been focusing extensive efforts on making it a lot easier to take out life cover. Being part of a broader organization allows us significantly simplify the process since we already know our customers so much better. We believe this added convenience coupled with our very competitive life insurance offering puts us a big step ahead of the competition.” explains Venter.

Absa were nominated for the award among 10 shortlisted entries from various entities across Africa.
