TransUnion expands retail knowledge base with appointment of leading expert

01 April 2009 TransUnion

TransUnion’s Analytic and Decision Services division has recently employed leading retail credit and consumer finance industry expert Paul Yon (pictured). He will be responsible for providing strategic direction, consulting and business development for the division’s retail business service offerings. He will report directly to Thamir Hassan, CEO of TransUnion’s Analytic and Decision Services in South Africa.

Yon has more than 16 years credit management experience in the retail and banking industries, including listed companies such as McCarthy Retail, Relyant Retail, Standard Bank and privately owned Edcon. At Relyant, as Group Credit Executive, he played an integral part in implementing scoring technology and TRIAD, which was a first for the furniture industry. At Stanbic Africa, as Head of Retail Credit, he was a part of the team that took Retail Banking into Africa and led the implementation of the initial retail credit structures across 12 African countries. As Executive Manager Financial Services at Edcon, Yon successfully implemented a software solution to detect card transactional fraud and played a leading role with its co-branded MasterCard® joint venture with Standard Bank.

Yon has developed an in-depth understanding of scoring and analytics, and has a passion for customer value management and how to optimize opportunities throughout the lending lifecycle. He also has extensive credit management experience with regard to installment-based lending, revolving credit products as well as banking transactional and loan products. Given his business experience, he will play a role in growing the TransUnion business with its diverse client base in the retail sector. Yon has a Professional Accounting Certification (CIS) qualification as well as a post graduate diploma in Business Management and a Masters in Business Administration.

Yon comments: “I am looking forward to the opportunity to work for TransUnion – a well known brand and global company. I am also excited about interacting with the highly skilled analytics and decisioning team and supporting the delivery of products and services that are relevant and add value to our clients’ businesses.”

Hassan adds: “We welcome Paul to our team and are confident that he will add significant value and insight with our customers who operate in the retail industry. Paul’s experience positions him as a trusted advisor in this niche environment.”
