The Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance: New Chairman appointed

The Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance announced the appointment of its new Non-executive Chairman of the Board, Moses Moeletsi, in Johannesburg today (Friday 21 September 2007).  Moses takes over the helm from consumer rights advocate, Isabel Jones, who will continue to serve on the Board. 

Moses Moeletsi is an Executive with the South African Bureau of Standards Regulatory Division and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and legal expertise in both regulatory and consumer protection.  He established the Gauteng Consumer Court and was a participant in the drafting of the Consumer Policy, the National Credit Bill and various other statutes.  He also serves on the Long-Term Ombudsman Council and the Motor Industry Ombudsman Board as well as The Credit Law Review Committee, an appointment made by the Minister of Trade and Industry in 2004.

The Board of the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance comprises representatives from consumer groups and insurance industry as well as the Financial Services Board.  "I am looking forward to my new role especially dealing with the challenges of a rapidly changing regulatory environment.  I will continue to build upon the wonderful work that was done by Isabel Jones, who I would like to thank on behalf of the Board for her leadership and tireless contributions to the Office". says Moses.
