Strengthening management at Hannover Life Re Africa

Hannover Life Re Africa, a subsidiary of the Hannover Re Africa Group has appointed Dr Karneen Tam as Chief Medical Officer, to head up the Medical Risk Assessment Unit. This team of specialists supports underwriting, claims assessment and product development across the company’s client portfolio.

Managing Director of Hannover Life Re Africa, Stuart Hill said “Dr Tam has been a major contributor to the significant growth that the company has experienced in its business over the past two years. Both Dr Tam’s strategic insight and leadership abilities have allowed us to develop and deliver a level of medical consulting expertise and training which has resulted in a distinct competitive advantage.

We expect that the combination of strong management skills, market-centric thinking and her particular focus on innovation in relation to product design, will further escalate our business growth over the coming years. Dr Tam will work closely with our actuarial marketing and pricing teams to develop in this area.”

Karneen joined Hannover Life Re Africa in 2007 as a medical officer. She obtained her medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1995 and completed a post graduate Diploma in Acupuncture and completed training in South Africa and then in Guangzhou, China in 1998.

“I look forward to the opportunity to further maintain our strength in designing innovative and progressive products and reinsurance structures for our clients,” she said.
