Santam, South Africa’s leading short-term insurer, has announced the appointment of Hennie Nel as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective 17 September 2012.
Nel joins Santam from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he has worked since 1993. He spent three years working abroad for PwC, which took him to South East Asia and the UK. His range of experience within the financial services industry covers general and life insurance as well as banking and investment management.
Nel has worked with a range of clients, including Santam during 2001 – 2007, when he was the company’s lead audit engagement partner. During this time, Nel worked on the implementation of the Guardian National acquisition, Santam’s B-BBEE transaction and was also involved in assessments of Santam’s international operations.
“We congratulate Hennie on his new appointment and look forward to working with him to grow Santam’s business, aligned to our international expansion priorities and local growth,” says Ian Kirk, CEO of Santam. “While Santam is the leading short-term insurer in South Africa, it is critical in today’s competitive market to stay at the forefront on new developments with our industry and ensure that we continue to deliver insurance good and proper to our policyholders, shareholders and other stakeholders.”
