Under the leadership of new CEO, Robert Roux, Sanlam Investments is proud to announce some exciting changes.

At the end of 2013 most of the business’ domestic asset management divisions were gathered under a single management structure, the Investment Core, with Nersan Naidoo as its CEO. “This was to simplify access to the breadth of our investment offerings and to leverage our investment skills to deliver the best solutions for our clients,” says Naidoo.

Today the Investment Core presents five main offerings to clients:

• Traditional asset management, including equity, fixed income, absolute return and balanced capabilities;
• Alternatives, including single manager hedge funds, Africa investments, private equity and direct property;
• Multi Manager, which includes traditional multi manager and funds of hedge funds capabilities;
• Liability-driven investing and derivative structuring in Sanlam Structured Solutions (SSS);
• Satrix, which includes vanilla index tracking and smart beta solutions.

Says Naidoo, “We’ve recognised the need for strong and focused leadership in each of these areas to ensure that our capabilities are best in class and well represented to our clients. We are delighted to announce two executive level appointments to our Investment Core business effective 1 June 2016.”

Azola Zuma has been appointed as chief executive officer of the traditional asset management business, which includes the Equities, Fixed Income, Absolute Return and Balanced Fund teams. Azola has 12 years’ industry experience and joins Sanlam from Vunani Fund Managers where she was an executive director and the head of Business Development. She holds an MA in International Business from the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and an MBA in International Business and Management from the Hanze University in Groningen.

Benjamin Kodisang becomes chief executive officer of Alternatives, which includes Africa Investments, Private Equity, Direct Property and single manager hedge funds. Ben has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry, 10 of which were spent as managing director at Old Mutual Properties. He joins Sanlam from Stanlib Asset Management, where he was also the managing director. Ben holds a BComm from the University of Natal and a BCompt (Honours) from the University of South Africa, and is a qualified CA.

“I am highly pleased to have two exceptional people like Azola and Ben join my leadership team and our business. I have no doubt that they will both be very significant contributors to our future business success,” says Naidoo.

Says Roux, “These appointments are a continuation of our journey to take the business into the future with our clients at the centre of our thinking.”

The Multi Manager offering will continue to be led by Selwyn Pillay and Bonolo Zwane, while Satrix will continue to be led by Helena Conradie and Steven Rosenberg will continue to lead SSS.
