M&G Investments is proud to announce promotions from within our deep pool of talented individuals in a bid to further bolster consistent delivery of their funds’ stated objectives over time.

M&G Chief Investment Officer David Knee said: “As a leading global investment manager, we are able to attract some of South Africa’s most gifted people to our investment team, encouraging their passions and offering them excellent foundations for growth. This has helped us nurture and expand our highly rated team of long-standing portfolio managers over the years, supported by a strong group of investment analysts, all of whom form the core of our business”.

The latest promotions include:

Sandile Malinga is promoted to Co-Head of Multi-Asset and will assume a co-leadership role alongside Michael Moyle. Malinga joined the Multi-Asset team in 2018 as a Portfolio Manager. Malinga’s significant contributions in idea generation and portfolio management has helped the M&G Balanced Fund achieve consistent top quartile performance since he joined. Currently, the fund is ranked in the top quartile of its ASISA category over all measured periods through 15 years (apart from four years). He also plays an active role in the management of our global fund range.

Aeysha Samsodien is promoted to Portfolio Manager on the Resource funds managed by M&G Investments. Samsodien will co-manage these funds with Portfolio Manager, Simon Kendall, and Head of Equity, Ross Biggs. Samsodien joined the equity team 10 years ago and her focus on the Resources sector has yielded excellent insights. As a team, Simon and Aeysha have built a formidable track record. One example is the Nedgroup Investments Mining and Resource Fund, which has over the last decade delivered an absolute return of almost 15% per annum, outperforming its benchmark by over 4% per annum.

Rahgib Davids is promoted to Portfolio Manager on the M&G Property Fund and the M&G Enhanced SA Property Tracker Fund. Davids will co-manage these funds with Portfolio Manager, Yusuf Mowlana. Davids joined the Equity and Property teams in 2020. Since then, he has been instrumental in driving the improved performance of M&G’s property funds. Notably, the actively managed M&G Property Fund ranks fourth out of 38 funds for the past two years, outperforming its benchmark by 3% per annum.

Bulent Badsha is promoted to Portfolio Manager on the M&G Enhanced Income Fund. Badsha assumes responsibility for this key fixed income offering alongside Portfolio Manager, Roshen Harry, and Chief Investment Officer, David Knee. Badsha joined the M&G fixed income team in 2021. Together with Harry, Badsha has helped drive the improved performance of the fund, which regained a top[1]quartile ranking in 2022.

Concluded Knee: “Looking towards the future, we are continuing to add to our exceptional talent pool through the M&G Investment Analyst Development Program, wherein candidates work closely with our investment team members for two years. We seek to equip aspiring investment professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to ultimately assume responsibility for helping manage our clients’ hard[1]earned savings”.

QUESTION

The South African authorities are hard at work to ensure the country is removed from the global Financial Action Task Force grey-list by February or June 2025. What do you think about their ongoing efforts?

ANSWER

But what about the BRICS?
Compliance burden remains, grey-list or not.
End-2025 exit is too optimistic.
Grey-list is the new normal.
Too little, too late.
