Johan Steyn - Retail Business Development
Johan graduated from Stellenbosch University in December 2007, where he passed his BComm (Honours) in Financial Analysis cum laude.
After spending two years abroad working in financial services in London, including for Bank of America as an Operational Risk Analyst, he returned to South Africa to start a Masters degree at Stellenbosch University. He also joined the faculty as a Junior Lecturer in Investment Management.
Johan completed all the levels of the CFA examinations and will be eligible for the charter upon completion of the required work experience.
In January 2012 Johan joined Prescient Investment Management in a technical support role for the Retail Business Development team.
Dawie Carstens -Retail Business Development
In 2007 Dawie completed his BComm. Hons (Investments) and CFP diploma at Stellenbosch University. In 2011 he obtained his advanced post graduate qualification in financial planning through the University of the Free State
In 2008 Dawie joined Stanlib as part of their graduate programme in the Johannesburg head office and was trained in all departments of the business, later the same year he joined the wealth retail distribution team in Cape Town where his main responsibilities was building relationships and marketing the Stanlib linked platform as well as the Stanlib unit trust funds to IFA’s.
During 2010 the Liberty and Stanlib distribution forces joined together and he was effectively employed by Liberty, where his responsibilities shifted towards marketing the Liberty product offering to IFA’s in the Cape Town region, giving him exposure to the risk side of the business as well.
In 2012 Dawie joined Prescient as part of the Retail Business Development team in and will assist with retail distribution in the Western Cape.
Steve Rubenstein - Head of Fund Management
Steve joined Prescient on 01 January 2012. He has a wealth of investment and strategy experience. Over the past 20 years, Steve has held positions as Strategist, Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research at various financial institutions. He heads up the investment team and we believe that he will strengthen our research and strategy capability. In addition to his depth of knowledge of the market, Steve is also passionate about mentoring younger investment professionals, and this fits in very well with our process at Prescient. We operate in an open-plan environment to facilitate learning and succession.
