SHA Specialist Underwriters recently announced the appointment of Manisha Chiman as the Manager of Commercial Liability Underwriting, as well as the promotion of Amanda Schoeman to the Manager of Commercial Professional Indemnity Underwriting.

Chiman started working in the insurance industry in 2011 when she was recruited after university as a trainee liability underwriter. She has now joined SHA in the commercial liability team and will be involved managing a team of skilled underwriters with a focus on risk evaluation and assessment, coverage analysis, pricing, portfolio analysis, wording reviews, business development and retention. She holds a Higher Certificate in short-term insurance through Milpark Business School, a Bachelor of Commerce in Insurance and Risk Management & Marketing; and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Insurance and Risk Management from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Chiman has previous experience in portfolio management, risk analysis and pricing of both local and multinational healthcare accounts. “Healthcare allowed me the opportunity to work on new product research, development and underwriting of medical malpractice for practitioners, clinics, medical devices and nutraceuticals. Working for a global insurer allowed me opportunities to travel and provided me with liability exposure on a global scale. I hope to apply these skills in my new role at SHA,” says Chiman.

With over 18 years in the professional liability sector, Schoeman started at Admiral Underwriting as an underwriter in 1998. She joined the SHA team in 2008, following the merger between Admiral Underwriting and Stalker Hutchison and Associates. As the new Manager of Professional Indemnity Commercial she will be responsible for managing staff, overseeing the daily running of this division, underwriter training and technical advice on professional indemnity matters.

“I am very privileged to have been trained and mentored by some of the industry’s foremost experts in the field. My main goal in my new position is to enhance SHA’s service offering as well as ensure that our team of underwriters are the best in the industry. I want to create a productive working-environment for my team to allow them to flourish as it is very important to me to empower people. Even after 18 years in the industry, the learning never ends and I look forward to soaking up every bit of information available to me to learn about as many products as possible,” concludes Schoeman.
