New appointment: Absolute Return Franchise

10 September 2013 STANLIB

STANLIB is pleased to announce the appointment of Marius Oberholzer as Co-Head, Absolute Return. Marius will be working closely with Eben Maré, who has been at the helm of the Franchise since 2010.

Marius will focus on local and global equity growth components and will provide input into strategic and tactical asset allocation decisions for the portfolios. His background of successfully running unconstrained, fundamentally sourced absolute return positions and portfolios across multiple investment markets complements the existing team’s process and offers a differentiated input into stock selection and portfolio construction.

Marius joins STANLIB from Sarala Capital in Cape Town, where he was Managing Partner responsible for providing strategic direction. His role was focused on corporate finance solutions and spearheading the group’s unlisted investment activities. Between 2000 and 2012, he worked at TT International in London and Hong Kong where he focused primarily on managing TT’s Asian Opportunities Long Short Equity Hedge Fund.

Marius holds a B.Com degree (Stellenbosch) and an M.Sc in Global Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and New York University.

“We remain dedicated to achieving investment excellence and strong performance and believe that Marius’s appointment will further strengthen the Absolute Return team’s ability to provide solutions that deliver consistent, inflation-beating returns with low dispersion through all business cycles”, said STANLIB Asset Management Managing Director, Ben Kodisang.
