Munich Re of Africa appoints new CEO
Junior John (JJ) Ngulube has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer of Munich Re of Africa (MRoA), it was announced this week.
Ngulube will take the reins of Africa's largest reinsurer on 1 October 2007 replacing Andreas Kleiner, who will be taking up a seat on the Board of Management of Ergo International AG in Dusseldorf (a company of the Munich Re Group).
JJ Ngulube has been with MRoA for 20 years, initially joining the Harare Branch Office of the company as Agronomist in 1987. Between 1992 and 2003, he held various management positions, including having responsibility for Miscellaneous Accident/Agriculture, Divisional Management of Human Resources and Strategic Planning, and as Deputy General Manager of the Non-Life International Division responsible for the Sub Saharan portfolio. In 2003, Ngulube was appointed Member of Executive Management responsible for the Southern African Non-Life Treaty portfolio. From February 2006 he was seconded to Munich Re, Munich as Head of Global Reporting for an18 month tenure, returning to South Africa in August 2007.
According to Andreas Molck-Ude, Chief Executive for Munich Re's Middle East & African Non-Life business, MRoA is in optimal shape for a change of leadership having posted strong underwriting results for the third year running this May.
"We are confident that Junior Ngulube will further develop the strengths of MRoA and lead the company to continued success in the years to come," he said. "In this respect we wish him and his Executive Team the best of success as well as the necessary quantum of luck required in our industry!"
