Leading Ladies of Financial Services: Consult’s Sonja Steyn steps up into new leadership role at Momentum Advice

Sonja Steyn, former Head of Wealth Management Strategy at Consult by Momentum, has been appointed the new Head of Strategic Wealth Management and Advice for Momentum Advice.

This role will see her at the helm of the financial services company’s advisory channel consisting of Momentum Financial Planning, Momentum Distribution Services and Consult, where she will steer the wealth management strategies for each unit.

With around three decades of experience in the financial services industry, Steyn is a Certified Financial Planner, holds an MBA and a Master’s degree in Psychology, and is also a qualified life coach. Having worked with some of the biggest financial services institutions in South Africa, she is a highly specialised wealth management professional with extensive knowledge and skills. She has in-depth experience developing and implementing high-net-worth advice frameworks and was the driving force behind Consult’s innovative Wealth Management and Private Wealth propositions, both locally and globally.

Says Hannes van den Berg, Executive Head at Momentum Advice, “Sonja embarked on her professional journey as a financial adviser, which enabled her to acquire valuable first-hand experience of the challenges, demands and requirements associated with the role. This has provided her with insight to shape adviser-centred strategies that are relevant and practical, and she brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and expertise to the role.”

Van den Berg adds that Steyn will focus on designing and executing channel-specific wealth management strategies, frameworks and advice processes that cater to the distinctive requirements of each channel, adding that, “I am excited to see how her strategic guidance will influence advice processes and the vertical integration of the wealth management strategy, which will ultimately enable financial advisers to manage and enhance the financial wellness of their clients across all advice-centred distribution channels.”

Says Steyn: “I have always advocated for a holistic approach to financial and business management while striving to create client and adviser experiences that are not only tangible but also meaningful. I am thrilled to step into this new role, where I will work to co-create integrated strategies for each channel, with the ultimate aim of holistically guiding our clients on their journey to financial prosperity and success.”
