Jordaan takes over the reins at Fedhealth

Peter Jordaan

Peter Jordaan has been appointed as the new Principal Officer of Fedhealth effective 1 March. Jordaan succeeds Katy Caldis who resigned last year.

With a strong medical scheme track record and intimate understanding of the scheme having first joined in 2007 as a marketing executive, Jordaan has been operating in the position of Acting PO over the last six months.

Jordaan believes his greatest challenge is growing membership in a stagnant market and attracting the right profile of member. Equally of importance is ensuring sustainability for the Scheme into the future taking into account a changing legislative environment. Jordaan says it's important to start planning now for a changed industry landscape that will come with the introduction of NHI. His vision is to ensure Fedhealth remains one of the top schemes in the country, and to continue with the Scheme's philosophy of providing real medical aid to its members.

"Fedhealth is known in the market as the scheme who pays more from risk than any other scheme and one of my main objectives will be to retain this market position and to continue providing the best value-for-money that medical aid can offer."Having said that I am highly cognisant of the fact that it's not just about chasing members, but driving the right behaviour to create a healthier and more empowered South Africa," he says.

Jordaan has been integrally involved with the development of the scheme's network options. "Partnering with healthcare providers is essential in that it keeps costs stable and alleviates unanticipated future spikes that could damage the financial stability of the Scheme.

While the networks may still be in their fledgling stages, once the model is perfected it will be a major advantage to ensuring the future sustainability
of the Scheme," concludes Jordaan
