Investment Solutions, South Africa's leading multi-manager, has appointed Jeff Makhetha as chief operating officer, from 1 July 2007.

Makhetha joins Investment Solutions from Alexander Forbes Compensation Technologies, where he was the chief executive officer, a position he has held since 2005.

Previously Makhetha held a number of positions within Alexander Forbes Risk and Insurance Services. In 2002, he co-founded and was executive chairman of Faranani Risk Solutions. At the time Faranani was Alexander Forbes' BEE subsidiary, focusing on local government clients.

Before his involvement with Alexander Forbes, Makhetha worked for Fujitsu Services, running its public-sector business unit. Before that, he worked in local government, including the Pietermaritzburg municipality and the Institute for Local Government Management.

His responsibilities at Investment Solutions will include the operational, technological and human resource functions.

Investment Solutions managing director, Steven Braudo, says Makhetha's appointment will add to the depth of skills within the company. "We strive to employ entrepreneurial people who put clients at the forefront of their thinking," he says. "The business is also committed to continuing on its path of achieving meaningful transformation. Makhethas appointment is not only a significant step in achieving this goal but will undoubtedly add tremendous impetus to our overall business-transformation drive."

Makhetha says: "Investment Solutions attracts some of the best brains in the industry. I am looking forward to learning about the investment world and working with the team to find ways to continually enhance our value proposition to clients."
