Investec Asset Management appoints rated analyst to research team

Investec Asset Management has strengthened its investment research team with the appointment of rated analyst John Thompson. 

"John joins us with a fantastic track record as a sell-side analyst, so we are thrilled to welcome him to our research team. He will add further depth, experience and expertise to our equity business, a critical component of our award-winning investment team. We look forward to his contribution," said Sam Houlie, SA Head of Equities at Investec Asset Management.

Thompson, who was the top-rated analyst for food processors in 2006, 2005, 2002 and 2001, boasts twenty years of industry experience. He joins Investec Asset Management from Nedcor Securities, where he was head of financial and industrial research. Before that, Thompson worked at both JP Morgan Securities and ING Barings as a consumer analyst. He also spent several years as analyst with some corporate finance and portfolio management duties at SBC Warburg (now UBS) and Barnard Jacobs Mellet.

Commenting on his new role, Thompson said: "The move to Investec Asset Management simply presented a great opportunity to work with a driven, dynamic and highly regarded team. I'm delighted to have made the transition away from the sell-side and believe Investec Asset Management will provide me with the ideal platform from which to leverage my market experience."

Thompson holds am MBA from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada and a Bachelor of Arts from Queens University, also in Canada
