Gareth Stobie to join etfSA as it embarks on new era of expansion and development

02 October 2023 etfSA

etfSA today announced that Gareth Stobie will be joining it as an Executive Director to lead the company’s strategy and corporate development.

Gareth Stobie is well known in the industry having formerly founded the CoreShares Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) and asset management business prior to its acquisition by 10X Investments in 2022. Morningstar recently recognised CoreShares as ‘the best Fund House’ in South Africa with a large fund range. He brings with him more than 20 years of banking and asset management experience.

etfSA has played a major role in the formation and development of the local ETF industry. Over the years it has expanded into a fully-fledged discretionary FSP, multi-manager, investment platform, financial advisory and research firm dedicated, in the main, to Exchange Traded Products (ETPs). Gareth Stobie will be joining respected industry veterans: Mike Brown and Nerina Visser as etfSA embarks on its next phase of growth.

Gareth Stobie “there are now over 200 ETPs listed on the JSE not to mention the thousands available globally. etfSA fulfils an important role in terms of guiding the investor on ETP product selection and ensuring that client needs are serviced with the appropriate advice and solutions.”

Mike Brown, founder of etfSA, “etfSA not only provides access for investors to low cost, discretionary, digital platform technology, and solutions, but also provides financial advice on the optimal use of the myriad of ETFs/ETNs/ AMCs and AMETFs available to the retail investor. It designs, manages, and administers investment portfolios of ETPs for wealthy clients in both South Africa and abroad. The etfSA model blends ‘high-tech’ access to low-cost financial technology, with an old school “high touch” personal client service and wealth management.”

“In many ways the etfSA business is just scratching the surface considering the worldwide growth in the ‘ETF strategist’ role and in the alignment of fintech and advice businesses globally” said Stobie

Reflecting on his CoreShares journey Gareth Stobie added:” I am enormously proud of the work achieved whilst building CoreShares. I feel confident that the business of CoreShares, its clients, staff and stakeholders are on a secure footing within the 10X Investments fold. I shall remain a shareholder of 10X Investments and etfSA is a material client of the 10X business. I see this as an evolutionary move, and it represents fresh challenges and areas of growth for me personally”.

Mike Brown “etfSA has grown its services alongside the burgeoning ETF market, but we see fresh opportunities ahead. We are delighted to have Gareth join our team and we are certain that with his track record and diversified skill set we will be able achieve fresh impetus”.
