Global law firm Clyde & Co has announced the strategic appointment of Gasant Orrie as a Partner in its South Africa corporate practice. Gasant will be based in the firm’s Cape Town office and will support clients across South Africa and the wider African continent.

With close to 30 years of corporate and commercial experience, Gasant is a Chambers Global ranked lawyer who is highly regarded and widely recognised for his extensive expertise in corporate M&A, transaction, and advisory work across several key sectors such as financial services, hospitality and leisure, real estate, aviation and oil and gas. He has advised local and international clients on some of South Africa’s largest and most progressive transactions, including several public companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, state-owned companies, and government bodies.

Gasant joins Clyde & Co from Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Inc (CDH), where he was the Cape Managing Partner and a Senior Director of the corporate & commercial practice. To further complement Clyde & Co’s corporate offering, Gasant joins the firm with his team from CDH.

Tony Hardie, Managing Partner, South Africa, comments: “Gasant is a welcome addition to the team and his appointment is aligned to our strategic growth plans of expanding the services provided by our Cape Town office and complementing our existing powerful corporate service offering in South Africa. His experience and strong reputation in the market will be of great value to our clients who continue to use Clyde & Co for reliable and innovative legal advice.”

Gasant Orrie comments: “Clyde & Co has a strong and well-respected reputation in the market, and I am very pleased to be part of the firm’s corporate expansion plans. It is an exciting time to take on this role. Despite obvious challenges, South Africa is still seen as an established, reliable, and cost-effective jurisdiction from which to drive M&A activity into the rest of Africa. There are significant opportunities for businesses, and I look forward to supporting clients with their corporate matters.”

Gasant’s arrival will further boost the strength of Clyde & Co’s global corporate & advisory practice. The global practice has a solid reputation for advising on and managing complex, cross-jurisdictional transactions in mature and emerging markets.

Clyde & Co is one of the largest international law firms operating in Africa, with experience working across more than 50 different African countries. The firm has been active in the region for over 20 years, advising on complex multi-jurisdictional transactions that include some of the continent’s largest infrastructure and energy projects. Clyde & Co is also recognised as Africa’s leading international insurance law firm.
