Chubb today announced the appointment of Gilbert Flepp, formerly Cyber Risks Manager (First Party) for Continental Europe, to the role of Head of Construction, Powergen and Cyber Risk for Africa, as it continues to build its insurance capabilities in the Eurasia & Africa region.

In his new role, Gilbert will be responsible for the performance and profitable growth of Chubb’s insurance portfolios in these developing areas of risk in Africa, and will also provide technical underwriting support and guidance to the teams in Russia and Turkey. He will also continue to work with Chubb’s Continental Europe team, reflecting the diverse distribution channels and geographies through which African business is written by Chubb. Gilbert will continue to be based in Paris, reporting to Giles Ward, Regional President for Chubb in Eurasia and Africa and to Steve Reiss, Chief Operating Officer for Chubb in Continental Europe. His appointment is effective immediately.

Gilbert has over 30 years of insurance industry experience and joined a Chubb predecessor company CIGNA in 1989. Before assuming his current position, Gilbert was Cyber Risks Manager (First Party) for Continental Europe, with responsibility for developing and managing cyber risk insurance products and services across the region. Previously, he served as Technical Lines Manager for Continental Europe, overseeing several diversified portfolios with a focus on power generation, information technology & communication (ITC) and construction. Before joining the company, Gilbert worked for nearly six years within the construction sector division of the French insurance broker Diot and for five years as a construction project engineer.

Giles Ward, Regional President for Chubb in Eurasia and Africa, said:

“Construction and power generation is an increasingly important sector for the African continent, while our research shows that technology risk is the number one emerging risk for African risk managers. Gilbert, with his wealth of technical and underwriting experience, will play a key role in developing our risk solutions and further strengthening our capabilities within our Eurasia & Africa region in general. I welcome him to our team and I am very much looking forward to working with him.”
