“Women are often perceived as token or politically correct appointments. In a new role, a man is generally given the benefit of the doubt and considered capable unless he proves otherwise. A woman on the other hand, has to work hard to win credibility and be considered capable.”

Bassa joined the group as managing executive of Absa Retail Banking Services in 2002, where she was the driving force behind the group’s strategy, focus and approach to retain Absa’sposition in retail banking.
