Appointments at Grindrod Asset Management

Grindrod Asset Management and the Plexus Group recently merged their respective asset management businesses. Senior executives from both Grindrod Asset Management and Plexus fill the leadership positions in the new entity – and the following appointments

1. Dr Prieur du Plessis, previously the chairman of Plexus Group, has been appointed as Non-executive Chairman of Grindrod Asset Management. Du Plessis founded the Plexus group in 1996 and has 27 years’ experience in investment research and asset management. He is also editor of the Investment Postcards from Cape Town blog, professor extraordinaire at the University of Stellenbosch Business School and Honorary Consul of Slovenia for South Africa.

2. Paul Stewart, previously the managing director of Plexus Asset Management has been appointed as Executive Director and Head: Asset Management at Grindrod Asset Management. Stewart, who joined Plexus in 2005, has 17 years' experience in the investment and asset management industry. Previously the Managing Director of m Cubed Unit Trust Management Company, Stewart also chairs the Association of Savings and Investment South Africa’s (ASISA) Fund Mandates Committees.

3. Ian Pallot, previously the financial director of Plexus Asset Management, has been appointed as Head: Finance & Operations at Grindrod Asset Management. Prior to this, Pallot was a partner at Coopers & Lybrand. He has over 20 years’ experience in business start-ups and corporate restructuring, corporate finance, structured property finance and private equity.
