Allan Gray appoints new COO

Allan Gray today announced the appointment of Rob Formby as Chief Operating Officer designate, to take over as Chief Operating Officer in June 2018. Formby takes over from Rob Dower, who is stepping down to pursue other opportunities within the group.

Formby has been at Allan Gray since 2009 as Director of Retail Operations, responsible for more than half of the Allan Gray employee base. Under his leadership his team has delivered excellent service and made steady gains in efficiency and in their use of technology. More importantly, he is an engaging leader and fully immersed in the business ethics and values of Allan Gray.

Formby was previously employed at Mvelaphanda Group and holds an MBA from INSEAD and an engineering degree from UCT.

“Rob Formby has made a fantastic contribution to improving our service to our retail clients, and we are looking forward to his impact as a leader of our broader group,” says Ian Liddle, chairman of Allan Gray. “I want to thank Rob Dower for his wise and enthusiastic leadership as our COO over the last 9 years. We are pleased that he will remain within the group to work on new projects, after taking a well-deserved break.”
