Alexander Forbes Risk and Insurance Services (AFRIS) has appointed Debbie Geraghty as Business Unit Manager for its Metals and Minerals division.

Geraghty has been involved in the insurance and risk management business in various capacities for over 20 years. She started her career in 1986 with the General Accident Insurance Company in its underwriting section. In 1995 she joined Alexander Forbes as a Technician for Corporate accounts and moved into Client Servicing role in Metals & Minerals in 1999.

Jurie Erwee, MD of Alexander Forbes Risk Services says they are delighted to have Geraghty take the helm at the Metals and Minerals division.

"She brings a depth of experience and expertise that will help take the division to its next level", says Erwee.

Geraghty replaces Paul Pryor who has left the company recently.

"We also wish to thank Paul for his stewardship in the last two years as head of the division and we wish him well on his new endeavour", says Erwee.

Geraghty has also spent two years in Scotland working for a local insurance broker before returning to South Africa.

She has worked on a number of high- profile clients in the coal and PGM (Platinum Group Metals) in South Africa.

Geraghty says she is honoured to lead a team of distinguished and driven professionals in her department.

"What makes it even more interesting is the fact that most of the team come from mining backgrounds and provide a solid service to their clients", she says.

The Alexander Forbes Risk Services Metals and Minerals team advises clients in South Africa and across the continent.
