A confusing task?

It’s a new week and the search for the ultimate ambassador of the insurance industry continues.

Following last week’s presentation, the contestants got to learn more about each other, as well as themselves. While some appeared to be improv masters, displaying the ability to think quickly on their feet, others seemed to buckle under the pressure of the judges’ fiery questions.

Down to nine contestants, this week brings a new task, a new sponsor, new team dynamics and an opportunity for the contestants to up their game and... impress the judges.

Growing protection GAP due to disaster risks
South Africa has experienced a number of disasters over the past couple of years, from natural to man-made disasters that have created a growing gap between what the traditional insurers cover (with limited reinsurance capacity). This has been exacerbated by the compounding effect of these disasters occurring and overlapping, thus making it unprofitable for the insurers.

Episode three, brought to you by Sasria SOC Ltd, sees the contestants act as insurance experts tasked to develop a workable Public Private Partnership (PPP) model or framework between the traditional insurance market and Sasria SOC Ltd as an insurance representative of the State.

Their solutions would be tested… so, were they plausible and practical models to address the problem? And did they demonstrate how/why this proposed model will solve the protection gap? Did everyone get the just of the task or was there some confusion amongst the contestants?

More importantly, did they win over head judge, Simon Colman, resident judge Nox Dlamini, Managing Director at XonRisk and sponsor judge Muzi Dladla, Executive Manager: Stakeholder Management at Sasria SOC Ltd? Because by the end of this episode, one of the contestant’s hopes of becoming The Insurance Apprentice would be looted and left without cover. The question is, which apprentice’s journey comes to an end?
