Redefining protest: risk management for a new era

11 May 2026 | Non-life | The Insurance Apprentice | Rianet Whitehead

After an intense first episode, the competition heats up even further in Episode 2 of The Insurance Apprentice 2026.

With Thapelo Mokoena as host and returning judges Simon Colman and Nox Dlamini, #TIA2026, headlined by Sasria SOC Ltd, once again raises the standard through challenges that put innovation, leadership, and collaboration to the test.

Sponsored by Sasria SOC Ltd, this episode is all about the right to protest and changing the narrative of protest as a crime vs protest as a constitutional right.

Setting the scene
Following the top 20 elimination round, only the top 10 contestants remain. These lucky few are now facing one of their toughest challenges yet. In this episode, they must design a comprehensive National Protest Education & Behaviour Change Campaign aimed at shifting public understanding of protest in South Africa.

Historically, protests in South Africa were criminalised, and this mindset has left a legacy of violent protests, destruction of infrastructure, and unrest-related claims that continue to burden the nation. With Sasria SOC Ltd as the sponsor, this task will challenge contestants to rethink the relationship between protest, violence, and constitutional rights.

The contestants must deliver a nationwide, scalable solution that will help clarify the constitutional right to protest, differentiate between peaceful protest and criminal violence, and reduce the risk of violent protests. Their goal? To lower Sasria’s exposure to claims while contributing to national stability.

The episode is designed to entertain TV viewers while teaching them how education and behavioural change can mitigate risks that affect not just businesses, but entire communities.

The task
In this critical challenge, each team must develop an integrated national solution that includes a simple, visual, and youth-friendly educational framework explaining the constitutional right to protest and the difference between peaceful protest and criminal violence; a multi-channel awareness campaign spanning social media, television, radio, and other platforms to engage communities across South Africa; a behavioural change strategy grounded in psychological insights to help reduce violent behaviour during protests; a clear Sasria risk-reduction model demonstrating how the campaign will reduce violent protest events, supported by measurable metrics to track progress; and a practical, scalable implementation and partnership structure that will ensure the solution’s long-term success and sustainability.

After crafting their solutions, contestants will present their strategies to a panel of expert judges, showing not only their risk management skills but also their ability to drive real societal change.

Who’s judging?
Our esteemed panel of judges for this episode includes:

• Nox Dlamini (Co-Judge)
• Muzi Dladla (Sasria SOC Ltd)
• Simon Colman (The Liability Company)

These industry leaders will be evaluating the contestants on their ability to balance creativity, feasibility, and the measurable impact of their proposals in reducing unrest claims and promoting democratic expression.

What’s at stake?
It’s simple – someone is going home. This challenge will test the contestants’ ability to think big, act with purpose, and make a real impact on the nation’s understanding of protest, violence, and constitutional rights. Watch now to see which contestants will thrive under pressure and who will buckle under the weight of public expectations.
