Planning For The End… Not The Impact

25 May 2026 | Non-life | The Insurance Apprentice | Rianet Whitehead

Welcome to Episode 4 of The Insurance Apprentice 2026, where only 8 contestants remain in the race.

Hosted by Thapelo Mokoena, with returning judges Simon Colman and Nox Dlamini, #TIA2026 - headlined by Sasria SOC Ltd - continues to raise the standard with challenges that test innovation, leadership, and collaboration.

In this pivotal episode, sponsored by Bryte Insurance, the contestants will tackle one of the most pressing issues in the South African insurance landscape: shifting the public perception of short-term insurance.

Setting the scene
In South Africa, funeral cover is synonymous with dignity and pride, seen as a necessity that ensures families are cared for during life’s most difficult moments. However, short-term insurance - such as car and home insurance - has yet to achieve that same emotional connection, despite its vital role in securing assets and livelihoods.

The task? To reframe the narrative and help people see short-term insurance as something that not only protects assets but also contributes to dignity, pride, and economic empowerment.

The challenge
Teams were tasked with developing a marketing strategy that positions car and home insurance as symbols of pride, dignity, and financial progress. They also had to present their ideas to the Bryte Board and create a short-form video for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, highlighting how insurance protects livelihoods and supports long-term success.

The contestants’ creativity, cultural relevance, and ability to deliver an impactful message will determine who moves forward in the competition.

What’s at stake?
The judges will evaluate the contestants on how well they can connect assets (like homes and cars) to economic participation, income generation, and the legacy that insurance helps build. Only some will move on to the next round.

The judges for this episode include:

Simon Colman (The Liability Company)
Nox Dlamini (Co-Judge)
Bianca Radzilani (Bryte Insurance)

The contestants will need to show creativity, cultural relevance, and the ability to deliver a message that resonates with ordinary South Africans, convincing them that short-term insurance is a critical part of success, just like funeral cover.
