And the winner is…..
At last the cat can now be let out of the bag, as Judge Theo makes his decision and announces the winner of The Insurance Apprentice 2015.
Readers and viewers of The Insurance Apprentice 2015 have caught a glimpse of this industry first and have watched as six young industry representatives competed against each other in order to be crowned the winner.
Throughout the episodes the audience has been captivated by these apprentices as they set out to complete a variety of different and thought provoking tasks including evaluating, and mitigating risk, giving a client feedback on the risks and liability within his company, selling insurance to an emotional, yet dismissive client, developing a client value proposition and persuading Grade 11 students to choose insurance as a career of choice.
Competition well played
There is no doubt that the week was filled with challenges but when there are six bright young professionals executing their tasks to the best of their ability, the competition becomes a lot more difficult. Not only have these individuals grown but they have learned about the many facets of insurance in more depth.
Throughout the week, Judge Theo had a helping hand from his fellow panel members including Marcel Wood, Head: Risk Improvement Services at Hollard Insurance, Vuyo Lee, Group Executive; Brand and Corporate Affairs at MMI Holdings, Simon Colman, Underwriting Executive at SHA (Stalker Hutchison Admiral), Riette Fern, Divisional Executive, Marsh Africa, Andrew le Roux, Head of iWyze at Mutual & Federal, Carel Nolte, Head of Brand at Fulcrum and the Purple Group, and Neesha Naidoo, Project Office Manager at INSETA, who had tough seats to fill. All of these judges did a phenomenal job in acting as mentors and judges in their various tasks.
In making the final decision on the winner of The Insurance Apprentice 2015 winner Judge Theo said, “the decision was marginal and it was due to the fact that the competition was fantastic and complex.”
With the above said, let us see which three Judge Theo booted out first and finally who the winner of The Insurance Apprentice 2015 is. One of the apprentices also wins a Milpark qualification. Watch episode 7 here.
The seventh episode was sponsored by PWV Insurance Brokers.

Supporting skills development
With the first season of The Insurance Apprentice at an end, it is overwhelming to say the least, of the amount of support we have received from companies who have and continue to share episodes and spread the word about this initiative to fellow staff and colleagues, bearing in mind that they had to and continue to share the episodes on the intranets, as a result of YouTube being blocked on company networks. We would like to thank the companies who have taken the time to share this series with work colleagues and staff.
We want to thank all of our sponsors who have supported us. The Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) has played quite an important part in this initiative from the beginning and is also sponsoring the winner to go to the Insurance Conference at Sun City this year. Peter Todd, President at the IISA was also instrumental throughout the planning process and we thank him for that.
The official sponsors are: Alexander Forbes, AON, Aquarius Underwriting Managers (AUM), Europ Assistance,FNB Insurance, Fulcrum, Hollard, Innovation Group, Inseta, Lloyds of London, Marsh Africa, Milpark, MUA, Mutual & Federal, Norton Rose Fulbright, PWV Insurance Brokers and SHA (Stalker Hutchison Admiral).
