VESA standards set by industry

The Motor Vehicle Security Association of South Africa (VESA) is an organization that monitors standards for vehicle security systems, accreditation follows only after severe testing. The VESA dealer fitting these products are trained and the integrity o

VESA standards are set by insurance industry.

The activities of VESA are controlled by 5 sub Committees according to the products they provide to the market:

Mechanical Committee (Gearlocks)
Electronic Committee (Alarms/Immobilisers)
Stolen Vehicle Recovery Committee (Vehicle Tracking)
Fleet Management Committee
Installation Centre Committee

The Stolen Vehicle recovery Committee (Vehicle Tracking) is of particular interest because of statements made by ex-members of VESA who served on this committee. These statements may have caused confusion in the market place. Those affected could include the public, insurance brokers, insurance companies, and the specialised centres fitting these products.

Many vehicle insurance policies require the fitment of a product accredited by VESA. This is listed in the policy wording of the majority of policies providing short term insurance cover. We urge the public to contact their brokers about the status of their cover, as they may currently have delisted products fitted to their vehicles.

To assist them we would advise that only the following companies are active members of VESA’s Stolen Vehicle Recovery Committee as approved members of VESA:

Bandit Vehicle Security Systems (Pty) Ltd - (031) 710-6700
Global Telematics (SA) (Pty) Ltd - (021) 915-6505
Digicore Technology (Pty) Ltd - (012) 665-5343
Cartrack (Pty) Ltd - (011) 883-6783
Mobile Tracker (SA) (Pty)Ltd - (011) 207-2100

Should there be any further questions, VESA can be contacted at 011-315-3588 or visit our website – www.vesa.co.za
