License system problems and short-term insurance
"The short-term insurance industry has taken note of the technical problems reported following the launch of the e-Natis system by the Minister of Transport, Mr Jeff Radebe on 17 April 2007," said the Deputy to the Chief Executive of the South African Ins
"Vehicle registration, licensing and license renewals are fundamental to the short-term industry's motor comprehensive class of business. The industry has therefore followed the challenges imposed on the department since the launch of the system with interest and some concern. We are also aware of the concerns of the members of the media and the public with regards to the potential impact of these challenges on motor insurance claims, added Ms Moletsane.
The SAIA would like to reassure policyholders that the industry will adopt a sympathetic position on the matter in appreciation of all the efforts and the resources that the Department of Transport has put in place to address the issue, Ms Moletsane.
The SAIA advises policyholders with motor insurance claims who have been experiencing problems in this regard to communicate with their insurers and/or their brokers.
"We, however, need to emphasize that no blanket approach will be taken by insurers but that all individual matters brought to the attention of our member companies will be decided on own merit," said Ms Moletsane.
