Santam helps consumers to manage their risks
Santam's campaign to help clients manage their risks has taken on a practical element, with the risk reduction offer of an assessment of a client's property for fire, security and structural risks, as well as an inventory of insurable items listed according to their true replacement value.
National Inventory Data (NID) provides the service to clients with the cost of personal lines packages starting at R285 and commercial lines packages at R515.
The service offers the following benefits:
* Clients are paid out for their actual loss to avoid the unpleasant effects of being under-insured and dispute over ownership and replacement values
* Clients claim will be paid out faster the inventory makes the calculation of your loss easier.
Explaining the rationale for the campaign, Margaret Massie, Executive Head for People and Brand at Santam, says, "As the largest short-term insurer in SA, we decided to forge a new way for the industry and, instead of only promoting insurance products, also promote risk management as a way of allowing consumers to get more of what they want out of insurance."
Massie says that, by choosing to manage their risks, clients are in a position to exercise greater control and ultimately, to reduce their risks. Santam's role is to assist clients in this process, thereby making their lives safer.
"Many people are unaware of the safety and security risks associated with their own homes, or whether they are over- or under-insured. By conducting these assessments, Santam will help clients to better understand, and therefore manage, the risks that they face. Its all about providing convenience, security and peace of mind," she says.
Massie notes that, in addition to the assessment on clients' properties, Santam is committed to providing tips and suggestions on how clients can manage their personal safety at home and at the office.
"The information we supply is designed to help clients improve their level of risk, make mishaps less likely to happen in the first place, and to give consumers more say in managing their lives. Ultimately we want to change the perception of short-term insurance from a grudge purchase into a beneficial lifestyle option", according to Massie.
