How safe is your safe?

While many South Africans believe that installing a home safe in which to store their valuables is a sufficient measure of protection, the continuing high home invasion rates as well as the more recent risk of flooding means this may not necessarily be the case.

According to Kate Lellyett of Aon Risk Solutions South Africa, a safer option is to look at placing your valuables in an off-site safety deposit box with a trusted institution. “Traditionally, most consumers have chosen to store their jewellery and other precious items in bank safety deposit boxes; however, with an ever increasing number of people making use of this option, there is now a shortage of supply amongst many banks in South Africa”

Lellyett says the option negotiated on behalf of Pinion clients in the Johannesburg area who cannot gain access to a bank safety deposit box or who wish to have a more personalised, convenient means of securing their valuables is the Knox Titanium Vault Company. It specialises in providing customers with an upmarket, cost effective and secure facility in which to store, view and access their most valuable possessions.

Customers making use of the service receive a pick up and drop off service, whereby trained security staff will pick them up and drop them back at home when depositing or retrieving valuables in a secure location. Customers also have the option of utilising a vehicle escort service, whereby a security escort will be made available to follow them home, should they choose not to make use of the above service.

“Knowing that you are protected and your valuables are safe will give you peace of mind and will ensure that 2011 remains a positive year,” says Lellyett.
