Glenrand M-I-B Pledges Support to the South African Police Services
Glenrand M-I-B has launched an interactive radio campaign in partnership with Talk Radio 702 to support the South African Police Service in the fight against crime, acknowledging the men and women in blue who have committed their lives to service beyond expectation. The “Glenrand M-I-B Police Station Renovation” campaign is drawing significant public support and nominations for stations that have delivered outstanding service to the local community.
“Glenrand M-I-B’s involvement in this campaign was a natural choice for us as we deal with the results and implications of criminal activity from an insurance perspective on a daily basis. Our police face untold danger and life threatening situations in the fight against crime to make our communities safer for us to live in so we felt it would be a great opportunity to call on local citizens to tell us how we could make the daily work environment of our SAPS that much more pleasant and motivating. We’re asking listeners to help give something back simply by telling us about a police station that has gone over and above the call of duty by sending in a short motivation about how we can help with a station renovation. It could be something as simple as a coat of paint and a few heaters to ward off the cold, to an entire revamp of the offices and an upgrade of the amenities,” says Andrew Chislett, CEO of Glenrand M-I-B. “The bottom line is that South Africa faces many challenges of which combating crime is one of the top priorities. Nurturing support and engagement between business, communities, Government and the SAPS is the only way that we will ever effectively meet these challenges and we are proud to support in any way that we can,” says Andrew.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman, spokesperson for the Provincial Commissioner, Gauteng, reiterates this view. “The Station Renovation campaign will play an important motivational role for our members – knowing that your work and efforts are recognized and appreciated is very important. It is also a great opportunity to build relationships between business, communities and the police and history shows that these are important pillars in the fight against crime,” says Supt Opperman.
Talk Radio 702 Station Manager, Pheladi Gwangwa adds: “We immediately jumped at the opportunity presented by Glenrand M-I-B to get involved in the police station renovation campaign. Talk Radio 702 is acutely aware of the important role played by the men and women in blue and will take up any opportunity to help them in their fight against crime. Our philosophy has always been that we should criticise where criticism is due and help where help is needed. In this regard we have a kinship with the South African Police Services in that we launched a campaign to get the Government to drop the tax levied on the death benefits paid to families of police men and women who died in the line of duty. We also rose to the occasion when we heard that at times emergency squad vehicles were delayed in getting to the scene of a crime and we raised enough money to buy more than 730 satellite navigation tools, and we launched and are the biggest supporters of Crimeline. This initiative with Glenrand M-I-B will heighten our involvement with the SAPS in their fight against crime. It is our firm belief that a little motivation to the police men and women will go a long way in assisting the fight against crime”.
