The old ostrich approach to doing business

07 November 2006 | Non-life | Commercial | Angelo Coppola

My old and rusty soapbox is getting more and more dented, and specifically by those clever people at the Department of Transport in KZN, who keep kicking it in the hopes that I will fall off.

Last week we ran a story about the KZN Department of Transport and an insurance contract that they had in place.

We were inundated by emails, phone calls, message-carrying pigeons, men carrying cleft sticks, snail-mail, and any other conceivable form of communication, except from the parties mentioned in the newsletter, namely the DoT in the province and the brokerage and the underwriter.

So we decided to give them the benefit or the doubt and resent them the email requests, which we had sent three weeks earlier. Just in case our email servers and the various spam filters were playing havoc and our emails werent getting through.

And in order to increase our chances of success we also copied the senior management team in the province, and all the people we had emailed earlier, in the hope that our mail would make it through their obviously extensive and very high and thick internet and email firewall security set-up.

Well, it appears that their security is so intense and strict that no emails have entered their domain OR they are choosing to ignore us, in the hopes that we will go away. We suspect that it is the latter.

Well, we wont go away and according to unconfirmed reports, we appear to be having some impact. We will keep you posted...

This is a parody. Names and places have been left out to protect the not-so-clever, the inefficient and customer non-centric people...
